The opportunity to play football and the physical capability to do so, has traditionally had a limited shelf life. While all of us remember the joy of kicking a ball around as a child, and instead of older players becoming too slow to compete. Walking football is slowing down to enable over 50’s to continue enjoying the sport they love and as a result its popularity is soaring.

Injury

On the positive side the threat of pain, discomfort and injury can be reduced due to the combination of a slower pace and reduced contact. Furthermore, allowing players the option to getting safely back to playing. It also introduces the sport to people who perhaps have never considered playing before.

Walking Football: Key Facts

  • Teams of 5, 6 or 7-a-side

  • No running with or without the ball

  • No slide tackles and minimal physical contact

  • There is a head height rule

  • For Players over 50 years old

Walking football is a variant of association football aimed at keeping not only men…but also women involved with football, and not able to play the traditional game.
